How to Choose a Surgeon for Your Upcoming Surgery

At Houston Community Surgical, we always want you to feel in control of your own health. This means making informed decisions when it comes to your treatment options - including picking the surgeon to perform your upcoming surgery.

When scheduling a surgical procedure, there are a few credentials and qualifications we recommend looking for in your surgeon to ensure the best possible care.

Board Certification

Your surgeon must be board certified by a surgical board that is approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties. Surgeons who are board certified have completed multiple years of residency and fellowship in their field, and have successfully completed a board certification exam.

Fellowship in the American College of Surgeons

If your surgeon is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), this means they have completed and passed a thorough evaluation of both professional competence and ethics.

High Surgical Volume

A high surgical volume is a clear indicator that a surgeon is competent and experienced in their field.

Practices at a Reputable Hospital

For extra peace of mind, look for additional hospital accreditations that prove the hospital’s areas of expertise.

A Great Communicator

Your surgeon should be communicating with you about every stage of your surgical treatment. This includes pre-op, the surgery itself, and post-operative care and rehab. Never be afraid to ask questions or to schedule more time to speak with your surgeon, as you deserve to feel comfortable and in the know about every detail of your upcoming treatment.

At Houston Community Surgical, it is our pleasure to serve you with compassion and care. Contact our office to schedule an appointment.
