Understanding Colorectal Pelvic Floor Disorders

Have you ever felt embarrassed or shy about issues like constipation, rectal prolapse, or fecal incontinence? My friend, you are not alone. Up to 10% of people experience debilitating issues like fecal incontinence (ie inability to control bowel movements). All of the above are common symptoms of pelvic floor disorders, and they significantly impact the quality of life of many people. As a board-certified colorectal surgeon, I'm here to educate others on these issues and offer specialized care to help you regain control over your pelvic health.

Pelvic floor disorders affect the lower GI tract - which includes the colon, rectum, and anus - and can manifest in various ways. Conditions such as constipation, rectocele, internal intussusception, and rectal prolapse are all related to the weakening of the muscles that support the lower GI tract. Fecal incontinence, hemorrhoids, anal fissures, anal fistulas, and rectovaginal fistulas can also be associated with pelvic floor dysfunction.

Although it’s understandable why someone would feel embarrassed to discuss these issues, you don’t have to. I am here to provide expert care tailored to your unique needs. My interest in and focus on colorectal related pelvic floor disorders ensures that you receive the highest level of care for conditions related to the colon, rectum, and anus. This includes colon cancer screening with colonoscopy.

In a world filled with large hospital systems and conglomerates, my practice stands out as a dedicated resource for those seeking compassionate, individualized care for pelvic floor disorders. Please do not let these conditions hinder your daily life. Send us an email, text or give us a call to schedule a consultation so we can get you on the path toward a healthier, more confident future. Your pelvic health matters, and I'm here to support you every step of the way!
